A Service Area (more often referred to as a SADA) consists of a geography and routing information.
As the Dig|Safely. New York Call Center processes stake-out requests, the geography of the proposed excavation is compared to the geography of each service area in the system. If your geography has any overlap with that excavation, your service area is considered to be an "Affected Facility Operator", the excavator will be told that you may have facilities in the area, and the process of sending you a copy of that stake-out request is initiated.
If a service area is affected by a stake-out request, the SADA will route the request to none or more destinations based on various rules and filters that you've defined.
